Aftercare

Healing is a collaborative process — here's your roadmap to soft, beautiful results.

At The Healing Design, I provide you with a specialized aftercare kit and a precise roadmap to ensure your results heal softly and beautifully.

The Golden Rule: For at least the first 5 days — and preferably 2 full weeks — your primary goal is to keep the area clean, protected, and dry.

1

The First Few Hours — Immediate Care

To prevent heavy scabbing and ensure the best pigment retention, follow these steps immediately after your appointment:

  • Initial Cleanse: Within 20 minutes of leaving your appointment, gently remove the Vaseline applied by your technician with a fresh tissue.
  • Wash & Blot: Wash your hands thoroughly, then gently cleanse the area with cool water and blot completely dry with a fresh tissue to absorb any moisture or weeping.
  • Protect: Apply a very thin film of Vaseline using a fresh Q-tip. Repeat this cleansing and reapplication process several times during the first few hours.
  • Reduce Swelling: For eyes or lips, you may apply a cold compress (a Ziploc bag filled with crushed ice) to minimize swelling.
  • Ongoing Ointment: Apply a thin film of Vaseline with a Q-tip 3 to 5 times a day for approximately 5 days — keep your aftercare kit with you for convenience.
2

Daily Care & Protection — At Least 5 Days, Preferably 2 Weeks

To protect the delicate pigment, you must avoid the following until the area is fully healed:

  • No Water or Sweat: Do not allow the area to get submerged in water. Avoid washing the area with soap, swimming, strenuous exercise, hot tubs, and saunas. Facial sweating must be avoided — it's the #1 cause of poor pigment retention!
  • No Makeup: Do not apply any makeup on or near the treated area.
  • Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure while healing.
  • Hands Off: Do not rub, scratch, or pick at the area or any scabs that form. Picking can lead to pigment loss and scarring.
3

Procedure-Specific Tips

  • Eyeliner: Do not rub or scratch the eye area until healed.
  • Eyes & Brows: No tinting of lashes or brows, and no lash stimulators (like Latisse), for at least 2 weeks following the procedure.
  • Lips: Avoid licking, biting, or picking your lips until healed. Skip salty, spicy, and acidic foods, and drink through a straw whenever possible.
4

Protecting Your Investment — Long-Term

  • The "Fade" Factor: Your color will appear much darker and bolder for the first 5–10 days. Don't panic! The area must fully heal before the final, softer color is revealed.
  • Avoid "Active" Skincare: To protect your color from premature fading, never apply products containing AHA, vitamin A, retinol, Retin-A, skin-lightening or bleaching ingredients, or peeling products (such as glycolic or lactic acid) directly to your permanent makeup.
  • Sunscreen is Key: Once healed, daily sunblock is essential to protect the color longevity of your permanent cosmetics.

If you experience significant itching, swelling, or bruising, stop using the aftercare ointment and call me right away — you may be having an allergic reaction. If you notice anything out of the ordinary or signs of infection (green or yellow pus, fever, or pain and swelling that increase after 48 hours), contact your physician immediately.
